Book Update!

Loads of thanks to the DC History Center for inviting me to the 2026 DC History Conference at MLK Library this past weekend! I sold and signed a bunch of books (Bridges of Washington, D.C.: A History & Guide) but, more important, I got to talk about DC history and bridges with dozens of people. The morning after the event, the book again hit #1 on Amazon’s list of Bridge Photography books.

Next up, I will be a panelist at the Washington, DC Local History Roundtable & Book Fair event at the Barnes & Noble in Georgetown on Sunday, May 17, at 3:00 pm. The location is 3040 M St. NW and, if you have not yet visited this Barnes & Noble location, it is amazing! I will be one of 6 or 7 DC history authors giving a short panel presentation, and then being available for smaller group or one-on-one discussions about DC history, bridges, and the book. More information about the event can be found at https://stores.barnesandnoble.com/event/9780062210071-0.

Further out, I will be at the Arlington Historical Society on June 11 at 7:15 pm. This presentation will be focused on the Potomac bridges that connect DC to Arlington County. The link for that event is https://arlhist.org/event/bridges-of-washington-dc-the-virginia-side/. The Arlington presentation will be available virtually through Zoom. Then, I have a presentation for a private group in Dupont Circle Village on June 21, a full presentation at the Takoma Park Neighborhood branch of the DC Public Library on August 6, and a signing/book fair event in Laurel on August 23.

A reminder that I still have a blog interview and a podcast available online. The blog interview with DC historian Matthew Gilmore is posted at https://matthewbgilmore.wordpress.com/2026/03/09/bob-dover-interview-with-a-washington-dc-history-author-bridges-of-washington-d-c-a-history-guide/ and the Rock, Paper, Write podcast associated with the Kensington Row local authors group is available at https://www.kensingtonrowauthors.com/podcast. As always, continue to follow www.bridgespotting.com, the Bridgespotting Facebook page, and the Bridges of Washington, DC Facebook group, where I rotate color photos of the DC bridges and post updates on coming events!

If you are part of a group, or know of a group, who wants to hear a presentation about the book, please contact me! The full presentation is about an hour long, and goes through the chronology of bridge construction in DC from the 1750s to today, and into the future. Not just facts and figures about the bridges, the presentation is really about the history of the District of Columbia itself, and how this history is reflected in the bridges that were constructed. The presentation also includes dozens of lovely photos of the DC bridges, showing the aesthetic forms of the structures, the stunning statues and decorations on the older bridges, the nighttime lighting on the newer bridges, and the historic importance of many of the structures.
